If you are in a cluster and it still won't add the drive, destroy the cluster and recreated it again.

You need to install the JBOD controller using the LSI Mega Storage Manager. There are two drives for this SAS controller: one RAID and one JBOD.

If you still see them as RAID drives, then you might have the wrong WINDOWS 2016 driver. Windows will see them as SAS bus type with HDD or SSD. You simply just add drives to the drive slots, and Windows 2016 will see them now. Once you do that, you are like in HBA mode. Once you upgraded the firmware, you can go inside it and enable the card to be in JBOD mode, and change the personality of the card from RAID-MODE to JBOD-MODE.

You can't update it with any of the existing LSI drivers since it will cause problems. Apparently, this is a special controller that can handle 12 drives, and it is only available for SuperMicro.

Compatible: IO Device 'MegaRAID SAS GEN2 Controller (PCIID:1000:79:1000:9263)' is compatible for ESX 6.7.Update: I got this resolved after much headache.įirst of all, you have to download the firmware from SuperMicro for this Avago 3108 raid controller. Vmhba1 - 0000:01:00.0: IO Device 'MegaRAID SAS GEN2 Controller' from Avago (LSI / Symbios Logic) Compatible: IO Device 'Cougar Point 6 port SATA AHCI Controller (PCIID:8086:1C02:8086:7270)' is compatible for ESX 6.7.0 I needed to run LSI MegaRaid Storage Manager (vivaldiframework) for my LSI 9260-8i SAS card in my Ubuntu Server I built to use as a Fiber Channel SAN (see: Linux Fibre Channel SAN). Vmhba0 - 0000:00:1f.2: IO Device 'Cougar Point 6 port SATA AHCI Controller' from Intel Corporation IBM servers hosting Microsoft Windows 2003 / 2003R2 / 2008 / 2008R2-based Operating Systems (OSs) loaded with MegaRAID Storage Manager (MSM) version 11.08.03.04 or lower may encounter an error preventing the user to log in to the MSM application when using Windows Domain Based User Accounts. It complained about my 10G nics possibly not being supported in 6.7 (but they still work), but the storage both reported compatible (the datastore works, but no hardware monitoring). Strangely, I found a Fling for ESXi compatibility checking. Going from 6.5->6.7 just makes me look at the other hypervisor solutions in the future.Įdit: Just found an updated document () showing 6.5 U2 as being latest for LSI provider. Going to v7.0, I'd expect to drop legacy stuff. I really, really hate it when hardware and feature deprecation happens in a point release like this.

So now I'll have to reinstall ESXi 6.5 to get around this issue. Unfortunately, when I discovered this and found the instructions to rollback to previous version, both bootbanks say they are 6.7 and cannot be downgraded or reverted.

In order to minimize the risk, please ensure that your data storage setup is not connected to the Internet or is behind of a firewall. Search your raid card again, and see it probably says 6.7 supported. The MegaRAID Storage Manager (MSM) utilizes the Apache Log4j library but none of our tests showed any indication of the library being affected by the exploit. Search "LSIprovider" on the compatibility check page to see the 6.5 U2. My raid card reports supporting 6.7, so you think all good, right? Nope, not if the LSI provider functionality is no longer supported. Messed around with different versions of the SMIS and lsi provider files, but ultimately I believe the issue is that the LSI Provider support has ended at 6.5 U2. I just ran into this problem after upgrading from 6.5 to 6.7.
